International Program

SPORTS

Athletics are an important part of a student’s human formation at Everest International Program. Athletics are a means to form the will, channel the passions, exercise teamwork, and respect and obey the authority reflected in the coaches and game rules.

ATHLETICS

Athletics provide the opportunity to exercise the Christian virtues of charity, obedience, patience, fortitude, and humility. Human virtues, such as punctuality, order, discipline, honesty, and self-denial, are developed through healthy athletic participation.

Overall, the extracurricular athletic program aims to:

  1. Promote the integral formation of students through their participation in a safe, high-quality, athletic program
  2. Foster virtue, teamwork, athletic skills and ability, and wholesome psychological development for all students
  3. Ensure that the healthy competition and entertainment of sports are maintained at a high standard of Christian conduct

NOTES

  • Team Sports: are offered in cooperation with the school. The students compete on the Everest Academy sports teams with the American students playing in a league against other local teams. The students must try out for these teams and are not guaranteed a place on the team.
  • Dance: Dance is offered year round at the academy for the girls. All the girls participate in dance classes which include jazz, tap, and ballet.
  • Ski/Snowboarding: The students are able to ski or snowboard often throughout the winter at a local ski slope. This activity often replaces their daily sports clinics.
  • Daily Sports Clinics: The students who do not participate in team sports during a given season or who do not have a team sport activity on a given day will participate in daily sports clinics after school using the school’s facilities or at a local park.
  • Due to the demanding schedules and participation in the school sponsored sports teams, the academy is unable to accommodate requests for private lessons in any other sports.

*The Michigan Association of High School Sports has additional requirements for high schools with international players. A certain quota of students will be allowed to play on school sports teams per year. Each student is eligible to play during their first year of enrollment and may try out for the team. After their first year of attendance, international students are required to take one year off in which they may practice but not compete.
